The traditional Singapore Hainanese satay is a culinary classic — a flavour Singaporeans proudly call their own. Leo Satay has played a direct role in making this beloved dish a staple across the island. Our Hainanese satay follows an heirloom recipe carefully preserved through generations of the Leo family. Blending a unique mix of herbs, spices, and quality meats, our satay delivers the rich, savoury taste that Singaporeans know and love.
Our story began in 1960, when founder Leo Teng Foon started handskewering and grilling satay at a humble hawker stall in West Singapore. His dedication to flavour and craft quickly earned him the nickname “The Satay Man.”
As demand grew, Leo passed down the trade and the treasured family recipe to his son, who, with his entrepreneurial spirit, expanded the business across Singapore. In 1990, the third generation stepped in. His grandson introduced automation to meet growing demand, while preserving the same handcrafted quality, taste, and consistency that customers expect.
Today, Leo Satay serves a wide range of customers — from major supermarkets and five-star hotels to top restaurants and large-scale caterers — in Singapore and beyond. While we’ve grown, our commitment remains unchanged: delivering authentic, timehonoured satay, made with heart.
At Leo, we believe that tradition should never stand still. While our roots are in handcrafted Hainanese satay, we continue to evolve with the needs of today’s kitchens. We pioneered Unskewered Satay, a first-of-its-kind that brings the same authentic flavour — without the sticks — into a more versatile, kitchen-friendly format. It’s a whole new way to enjoy satay, beyond the skewer.
Building on that success, we’ve extended the concept to Singapore’s beloved Zi Char meats, offering ready-to-use heritage comfort flavours for the modern cook. We’ve done the groundwork — from sourcing choice cuts to meticulously crafting marinades — so you can focus on creativity. Whether it’s for noodles, rice, wraps, burgers, pastry, pizza, dumplings, or something entirely your own, the possibilities are endless.
We continue to use the same secret family recipes for our marinades and sauces — faithfully preserved since our founder first created them in the 1960s. This commitment ensures that every bite retains the authentic satay taste that generations have come to love.
Our manufacturing is powered by a dedicated team of skilled and passionate workers, many of whom have been with us for years. Their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to quality play a vital role in ensuring that every product meets the high standards our customers expect.
The facility maintains strict food safety and quality standards and is HACCP* and ISO 22000 certified, ensuring consistency, food safety, and quality management at every stage. In 2015, we expanded our operations by adding two more factory units, increasing our production capacity by approximately 70% — a testament to the growing trust from our customers.
Even as we scale, our processes are carefully refined to balance efficiency with authenticity — ensuring the traditional flavours and quality are never compromised, thanks to the dedication of the people behind every slice, every skewer, and every pack.
* HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished product.
